Talented Tuesdays: Crissle West

It's Talented Tuesday! Each week, For Nerdy Girls features a digital innovator who inspires colorful women around the world. These are individuals who should be celebrated on a global level, so we'll start by talking about these changemakers right here.

Name: Crissle West

Twitter: @crissles

Website: crissle.com

What she does: Crissle co-hosts the podcast The Read with her friend Kid Fury.

Why she's inspiring: I first learned of Crissle through the above video in which she shuts down a so-called ally who tries to teach her about racism. Her response went like this:

Crissle is changing the landscape of podcasting. As she told Adam Sachs on her episode of The Wolf Den, for the audience listening to The Read, "it’s the first time they’ve heard anybody with a media platform saying the things that we say. We’re two youngish, black, gay people who have very strong opinions on the social justice issues that affect this country--racism and police brutality, especially-–and we don’t shy away from those topics... 'These guys are out here putting out a show that I can actually relate to.'"

She's funny, too.
